Q2 – How does Suki Pure Make-up go beyond mineral make-up and what are your thoughts on mass-market brands that claim to be ‘natural’ but aren’t. What should we be looking to avoid in mineral make-up if we want the purest formulation possible.
sukicolor® is mineral makeup evolved.* by replacing the traditional powder base with a pure cream format, we take away the drying, caking effect of conventional mineral makeup. our formulas are exceptionally blendable, 100% pure, and contain high potencies of organic botanical content as well as our unique, scientifically active skin care ingredients integrated with 100% pure mineral color - so when you use our makeup you are getting active skin care and color in one product.
sukicolor® creates a new standard in mineral makeup as well. unlike other “natural” and “organic” makeup lines, we never use synthetics, dyes, gmos or petrochemicals.
the terms, "all natural" and "organic" are used so loosely by mass-market brands. most consumers do not understand that the terms natural and organic do not necessarily guarantee that the product is free of synthetics--not at all. suki® and sukicolor® are the purest and cleanest products on the market. while our packaging is soon to be marked with the “ecocert” label, we want to encourage consumers to go further when looking for products, that is, to read labels and question whether all of the ingredients listed are clean and safe.
that said, it is very difficult to find another makeup formulation on the market that is truly clean.
our products do not contain synthetic ingredients, petrochemicals or even genetically modified ingredients, but many cosmetic products that claim to be natural use synthetics and other “ingredients to avoid” in their formulas.
for example, bismuth oxychloride is often used in powders to bind other ingredients and to add shimmer. this is a synthetically prepared powder which can clog pores and irritate skin when “buffed” into the pores. this ingredient is used in many products claiming to be all natural.
talc, a mineral that is ubiquitous in cosmetics, and has been for generations, should also be avoided because data suggests that talc particles can cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs. additionally, cosmetic-grade talc content is not regulated and can contain asbestos-like fibers.
synthetic fragrance is widely used as well. these, along with synthetic preservatives, are the top 2 harmful ingredient families in the cosmetic industry. fragrance chemicals, including benzene derivatives and aldehydes, are allergens and have been implicated in birth defects, cancer, respiratory problems, and a host of other health concerns. they are also environmental pollutants. the fda does not require that companies list the ingredients within "fragrance" on their packaging or disclose them when inquired.
many common synthetics and irritants are hidden in or are part of other ingredients, so it takes a lot of questioning and critical thinking to discover what is really in the cosmetics that are on the market today.

Q3 – Your brand tagline is ‘know you beauty’ can you expand on why you feel it is important for women to not feel under pressure to conform to generic beauty standards.
i feel that although we are often judged by our exterior, we know that it is disempowering to change ourselves for anyone else. our sense of true beauty comes from the inside. it begins with self-knowledge, then self acceptance, and it grows as we learn to adopt images of beauty that are real, alive, and strong.
know your beauty also means to me, being empowered with information because as i grew to understand more and more about this industry, my eyes were opened. there was a time i didn't know any of what i know now and i feel it's my duty to educate others. know your beauty is about me wanting everyone to become as knowledgeable as i am now. to take matters into your own hands because there really isn't anyone looking out for you better than you can.
i use the highest quality scientifically advanced ingredients available to keep the skin healthy and strong, like powerful antioxidants that fight free radical damage, and natural ahas and bhas to promote skin cell renewal and vitamin c glucoside to remove hyperpigmentation spots and to firm the skin. however, i always stop short of harm. cosmetic surgery and injectables are becoming more and more prevalent, so it is getting easier for women to obtain smoother skin and fewer wrinkles and lines. however, it is important to consider the cost of these procedures both to the body and to the self.
i know that it is difficult to age in our culture, however it is important to think about whether by arresting our outer development we may also be arresting our emotional development.
when i formulate i work with nature, not against her, to enhance our individuality and our own beauty in a way that promotes our health and respects our intelligence.

2.) Why is there a gap in the UK market for Whish – how do the products differ from shaving products already on the market?
The UK has always been a leader in the men’s shaving category. Brands like Trumper’s have been promoting richer shaving creams and brushes for 100 years. Whish is taking the same experience and translating it into shaving products that are more in tune to a female audience. We looked at the types of problems women experience while shaving or during hair removal and addressed them with ingredients, packaging, and essential oils to create a more feminine results oriented product group.
3.) What do women want from their shaving products?
Like with all bath and body treatment products, women are looking for products that will protect the skin from damage and products that make the skin soft and smooth. With women balancing their time between careers and family, they are also looking for products that can be used quickly and effectively. Women are also becoming more conscious of the harmful ingredients that are being used in the typical products found on the shelves of department stores and drug stores. Whish has provided a line of shaving products that have removed the harmful ingredients like parabens and have replaced the drying foam of other shaving products with a rich moisturizing cream full of antioxidants to not only moisturize the skin while shaving but to help rejuvenate and protect the skin and to provide long term aging benefits. 5.) How important are shaving preps and implements to the hair removal process – what difference do they make?
Our Shave Crave really works great as a stand alone product. Users will get a great shave! However, exfoliating prior to shaving is a good idea as it removes dead skin from the surface and allows you to get a closer shave. Our Three Whishes Sugar Scrub was developed specifically for this purpose. You may also use a shaving brush like Whish’s Body Brush. It is the helps to easily apply the shaving cream while gently lifting up hairs and exfoliating the skin allowing for a quicker, closer shave.
6.) Where will the shaving market go in future – where will innovation come from?
Women have become used to harsh drying foams and soaps that dry out and damage the skin during the daily shaving ritual. This has forced many women to turn to laser hair removal and waxing. As women discover that the daily shaving ritual does not have to be an unpleasant chore, the demand for natural more luxurious shaving options will emerge. This new demand will lead to more innovation in the shaving category including anti-aging ingredients to help women keep younger and healthier skin and improved hair-inhibitors to help reduce the frequency of shaving.
